Poetry Issue 2
Welcome back to the poetry section. In this second issue of Pig in a Poke, the poets continue to make the editor look good. I thank them all for that.
I've always thought that one of the great parts of editing a literary magazine is the diversity of people you meet, most of them very talented. I have known some of them, like Lyn Lifshin and Louis McKee, for decades. And then McKee recommends that a talented writer named Karla Huston send me some poems, and now I've got a new friend.
I get to publish people whose names I instantly recognize, such as Karl Koweski and our three featured poets: Barrett, Cunningham and McCreesh. And then I meet folks who are new to me, like Mark Jackley, Paul Handley and Michael Newell. And they too are gifted writers who each put totally different spins on their stuff.
There are some repeaters from the first issue, such as my friend Robin Stratton and the always-entertaining Corey Mesler. Along the way, I met a wild Englishman named C.P. Stewart who was "formerly singer/songwriter with the cult band Laughing Gravy." Finally, we have on hand a trio of superb poets from North Carolina: Scott Owens, Helen Losse and Jessie Carty.
In case you can't tell, I’m having a lot of fun with this! Enjoy the poems.
